Our take

The 2020 Hunt drops strangers into a deadly chase and uses the violence to make political jokes. People are shot, stabbed and blown up, with graphic wounds shown for shock and dark laughs. The swearing is constant too. We would keep this for 17 and up; the satire does not soften the gore.

Uplifting themes

The film pokes fun at people on both sides who assume the worst of each other, and one captive shows real grit. The message is easy to miss under the gore The hero is smart and tough, and she tries to stay alive and do right by the people near her. Most other characters are cruel or ridiculous

Story (may spoil tone)

Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don't know where they are—or how they got there. In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, ruthless elitists gather at a remote location to hunt humans for sport. But their master plan is about to be derailed when one of the hunted turns the tables on her pursuers.
