Our take
A Paramount+ sci-fi action movie about Emperor Georgiou joining a secret Starfleet division. Phaser battles, hand-to-hand combat, sci-fi peril and moderate profanity come with a darker tone than mainline Star Trek. Best for teens already invested in the franchise.
Uplifting themes
Duty, redemption and protecting the Federation recur as themes Georgiou wrestles with past sins while trying to shield others
Story (may spoil tone)
Emperor Philippa Georgiou joins a secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets and faces the sins of her past.

Talk after watching
- Secret divisions operate outside normal rules. When does security justify secrecy?
- Georgiou comes from a violent mirror universe. Can someone with a dark past still protect others?
