Our take

This MA 15+ horror remake follows a writer returning to a Maine town overrun by vampires. Bloody attacks, missing children, a drunk-driving backstory, monster chases and frequent f-word dialogue run through it. Classic King dread mixes jump scares with faith-versus-evil themes. Fine for older teens who handle vampire horror. Not for younger kids.

Uplifting themes

Community courage and faith against evil appear amid the horror Ben and his allies try to protect neighbors despite their fear

Story (may spoil tone)

Author Ben Mears returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem's Lot only to discover his hometown is being preyed upon by a bloodthirsty vampire.
