The Death of Robin Hood is an A24 revisionist thriller starring Hugh Jackman as an aging, guilt-ridden outlaw, not the heroic archer of legend. Rated MA 15+ for strong bloody violence, it features brutal medieval combat, arrow impalements, mace beatings, attempted burnings and a child shown impaled. Brief nudity appears in a non-sexual camouflage scene. Themes include assisted death, redemption and the gap between myth and murderous reality. The film is bleak and slow-paced, and critics were divided. Adults and older teens only: nothing like family-friendly Robin Hood adventures.
Uplifting themes
Redemption and the power of honest storytelling still emerge amid the grim, bloody violence Sister Brigid offers care and moral grounding, while Robin himself remains a deeply flawed figure
Story (may spoil tone)
Grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, Robin Hood finds himself gravely injured after a battle he thought would be his last. In the hands of a mysterious woman, he is offered a chance at salvation.
