Our take

Kate and Everett try one last Christmas with their daughter while living as separated parents. Co-parenting arguments, mild slapstick peril, social drinking, and kissing all appear without explicit sex. A silly sexy strip-or-dance side-hustle bit keeps the romantic heat clearly adult. Honesty supplies the warmth ahead of any perfect holiday. Tweens and teens who enjoy festive family stories will get on with it.

Uplifting themes

The film keeps asking whether Christmas traditions still matter when parents are splitting up, and whether grown kids get to choose their own path. Honesty, not a picture-perfect holiday, is where the warmth comes from Even while they are consciously uncoupling, Kate and Everett still try to keep a loving home for Gabe and Sienna. Parents will see imperfect co-parenting under stress, not flawless heroes

Story (may spoil tone)

Recently separated, Kate hopes to celebrate one last perfect family Christmas with her soon-to-be ex-husband Everett and their kids before their divorce is final and the house is sold. But her holiday plans are hilariously derailed when Everett unexpectedly brings his younger, successful new girlfriend.

A drone buzzes uncomfortably close to two women, and a Christmas tree catches fire in the holiday mess. It plays as slapstick peril, with no fights or weapons in the mix

Damn, hell, and at least one d-word show up among grown-ups, plus a few irritated name-of-deity blurt-outs. For a holiday rom-com, the language sits mild-to-moderate and never turns into constant strong swearing

Kissing arrives with a blunt line that the sex was good, plus a side-hustle exotic-dancer bit with a silly sexy strip and dance. No explicit sex scene appears, and the romantic heat still reads clearly adult

Wine, cocktails, and champagne show up at holiday gatherings, and someone jokes about looking drunk. Smoking is not part of the story. A smoke-show line is only slang for looking hot
