Our take

A convict pilots a tiny sub through an ocean of blood on a ruined moon in this indie-game adaptation. The MA 15+ covers language, bloody images and some gore. Markiplier keeps most of the film on one man in a metal coffin hearing voices, with relentless f-word use and gooey blood but limited jump scares. Suicide-mission talk and apocalyptic dread fill the runtime. Older teens who handle slow-burn claustrophobia will get it; game fans bring more context

Uplifting themes

Cooperation and doing the right thing get urged over the radio. Hope still feels scarce in the metal coffin. Courage stays quiet under the blood

Story (may spoil tone)

In a post-apocalyptic future where an event known as "The Quiet Rapture" caused all known stars and habitable planets in the universe to disappear, a convict is sent to search an ocean of blood discovered on a desolate moon, using a small submarine nicknamed the "Iron Lung".

Suicide-mission talk comes up, including the sense that death may be the point of the job. No on-screen self-harm act. Talk only inside the sub

Bloody images fill the environment and cover bodies in the sub. Wound detail and a severed-arm beat turn up. Acid-like blood effects add to the mess

Isolation, doom and prison trauma shape the pilot in the dark. Hallucinations press on him inside the coffin. The film lives in that frayed headspace

  • Simon trades prison for a likely fatal dive. When is freedom worth an almost certain death?
  • The viewport is sealed so he cannot see outside. How does blindness change fear?
