View all categoriesOur take
Earth's heroes face a man-made artificial intelligence that decides the planet is better off without people. There is wall-to-wall action, mass robot destruction, and a tense evacuation of a whole city, kept largely bloodless. A few frightening fear-vision sequences dig into the characters' worst nightmares, and there is a running joke about watching your language after a mild swear. Marvel fans around 13 and up should enjoy it, with a parent nearby for the scarier and sadder moments
Uplifting themes
The film champions teamwork, protecting innocent people, and taking responsibility for the messes you make. The heroes argue but pull together when it counts. There is plenty worth unpacking with teens Despite clashing egos, the team repeatedly chooses to shield civilians over winning fast, and one hero's quiet family life grounds them all. They own their mistakes. Good models of cooperation under pressure
Story (may spoil tone)
When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

The action is huge and near constant, from a forest ambush to a city torn into the sky, with armies of robots blasted apart. Heroes trade heavy blows and the Hulk rampages through a town. It is loud and destructive but kept comic-book clean

Swearing is mild, famously kicked off by a single s-word that becomes a running gag about minding your language. A few sharper words like b-word and son of a b-word slip through. It never piles up

Romance is light, with a tender flirtation between two heroes and a cheeky one-liner or two. Nothing is shown. It stays a small side note to the action. Romance is hinted at. Nothing is shown beyond that

A victory party has the team drinking freely, including some potent Asgardian liquor played for laughs. It is social and good-humoured. Getting drunk is treated as a joke more than a problem

A young enemy plants vivid fear visions in the heroes' minds, dredging up nightmares and dark memories. Ultron himself is a cold, creepy villain, and a rampaging Hulk tears through a city. These parts can genuinely scare sensitive viewers

During the final battle, families and children are caught in a collapsing, rising city and must be rescued. The peril is tense but the focus stays on saving them. Little ones may find the danger to kids upsetting

Guns and heavy weapons appear throughout and characters die, with a line or two about blood on the floor. Actual gore stays low, so the carnage is mostly robots and rubble

The fear visions force several heroes to confront trauma, guilt, and how they see themselves, including painful admissions about the past. It is woven into the spectacle but points at real feelings. A good prompt for a chat afterwards

One hero is killed shielding others, a loss that lands hard on the team and on a child he saves. It is sad but handled quickly. Older kids may feel the sting of it
