Why our age differs

Official is M. We say M because the biting deaths and body-horror are sustained and graphic enough that many parents will want mid-teens, not the lighter end of M

Our take

Eddie Brock becomes the human half of Venom, a snarky alien symbiote that wants to eat bad guys and argue about everything else. Body-horror transformations, biting attacks, and people dying in ugly ways sit beside odd-couple jokes. Language includes plenty of s-words and at least one f-word, plus drinking. Older teens around M who already handle darker comic-book films will get the tone; keep younger ones out for the gnawing and the corpses

Uplifting themes

A washed-up man and a monster learn to protect people together, choosing connection over pure appetite. Second chances and odd friendships get a nod. Light uplift under the slime Eddie starts selfish and reckless, then edges toward protecting others with Venom's grudging help. Annie pushes him toward decency. Flawed leads, not shining examples

Story (may spoil tone)

Investigative journalist Eddie Brock attempts a comeback following a scandal, but accidentally becomes the host of Venom, a violent, super powerful alien symbiote. Soon, he must rely on his newfound powers to protect the world from a shadowy organization looking for a symbiote of their own.

Venom smashes through goons, bites, and kills while Eddie tries to keep control. Chases, lab horror, and a finale full of lethal hits keep the body count rising. The buddy jokes soften it only a little once teeth come out

Lots of s-word, hell, damn, and the b-word in arguments and panic, plus at least one clear f-word. Venom's insults add extra bite. Moderate strong language without becoming a total barrage

Eddie and his ex share kisses and some charged talk about what counts as a real kiss. Romance is secondary to the alien chaos. No nudity or sex scene stands out

Eddie buys whiskey and is asked if he is drunk during a break-in spiral. Drinking marks his messy low point. It is visible without becoming the whole story

The symbiote crawls into mouths, warps faces, and turns hosts into toothy monsters in close-up. Body horror and sudden attacks keep a nasty edge even when lines are funny. Sensitive viewers may feel queasy

Gore / death / weapons Strong Heads and bodies take ugly damage, people are eaten or left as corpses,…

Heads and bodies take ugly damage, people are eaten or left as corpses, and one line even covers dragging a body by a train. Guns and lab gear appear too. The camera is happier to show the mess than most Marvel films

Talk after watching

  • Eddie and Venom have to share one body and negotiate every choice. What does compromise look like when two sides want different things?
  • The film plays eating criminals for laughs. How do you tell when revenge humour crosses a line for your family?
