Why our age differs

Official is PG. We say 8+ because the battles and villain threats are frequent and loud, even though the brick world keeps blood and real harm off the table

Our take

The Lego Movie is a fast, funny adventure about an ordinary mini-figure drawn into a rebellion. Toy-like shootouts, explosions, and chases are frequent but bloodless. Language is mild, and the story encourages children to think about rules and creativity. We put it at around 8 and up for most children who enjoy loud animated action.

Uplifting themes

Creativity, teamwork, and valuing ordinary people sit at the centre of the quest. Following every instruction is gently mocked. Making something new together looks like the win Emmet grows from rule-follower to teammate, and the Master Builders learn they need him too. Allies argue, then rebuild trust. Leadership looks shared, not bossy Families can talk about conformity, imagination, and why play matters. The Lego world is pure fantasy. Curious kids may connect it to classroom rules versus free building time

Story (may spoil tone)

An ordinary Lego mini-figure, mistakenly thought to be the extraordinary MasterBuilder, is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil Lego tyrant from conquering the universe.

Bad guys chase the heroes with toy guns, explosions, and comic kill threats as cities get smashed and rebuilt. Pieces fly; nobody bleeds. The fights feel like playtime set pieces more than real harm

A controlling villain, sudden chases, and odd creatures like a swamp monster add mild menace inside the jokes. Loud collapses may startle preschoolers. Older kids usually read it as adventure comedy
