Our take

Leave the World Behind traps two families in a rental as communications fail and distant explosions raise fears of disaster. Their distrust, a gun standoff, and strange animal behaviour build dread without constant gore. Strong swearing comes in bursts of panic. We put it at around 13 and up for the apocalyptic tension and family fear.

Uplifting themes

Families try to protect kids and later admit fault, yet racism and class jabs undercut trust. Any unity is fragile Both sets of parents love their children, but almost every adult lies or snaps under pressure. Use them to talk about stress, not to copy The blackout setup invites talks about media, dependency on phones, and how rumors spread when facts are thin. Worth a pause if teens like geopolitical thrillers

Story (may spoil tone)

A family's getaway to a luxurious rental home takes an ominous turn when a cyberattack knocks out their devices—and two strangers appear at their door.

  • When the grid goes down, who do you trust at the door, and how would your family decide?
  • How do you read news and social feeds when a film shows people guessing at a national crisis?
