This MA 15+ Ridley Scott post-flu drama follows a Colorado pilot, his dog and a hardened survivor facing scavengers called Reapers. Grief, shootings and hope sit in a muted Western tone that is slower and less explosive than trailers suggest. Teenage strangers die at a guarded perimeter, and pandemic isolation weighs heavily. Best for older teens ready for melancholy dystopian drama rather than nonstop action.
Uplifting themes
Human compassion and hope counter the bleakness, according to the Hollywood Reporter, though the ending feels somewhat abrupt Hig models kindness to outsiders while Bangley models shoot-first survival. The dog Jasper symbolises loyalty
Story (may spoil tone)
After the world's population has been ravaged by a pandemic, a man lives a lonesome existence in a Colorado airplane hangar with his dog and a dour gunman he has befriended. When a mysterious transmission comes through on the radio while he’s flying his old Cessna, it sparks a hunt for the provenance of the sound.
