Official is M. We say 15+ because the creature attacks and night hunts stay intense, with sad family flashbacks that sit above a lighter M

Our take

I Am Legend follows a man living alone in a ruined city while infected creatures hunt after dark. Guns, creature attacks, and harm to animals make parts of the story difficult, while memories of his family fleeing add grief. Language is mild. We put it at around 14 and up, with a parent nearby for viewers unsettled by isolation or night-time scares.

Uplifting themes

Duty, hope, and helping strangers still matter when almost everyone is gone. The film values sacrifice and keeping a promise to keep trying. Loneliness never fully wins The scientist keeps searching for a cure and protects others when he could hide alone. He is flawed and exhausted. Care for a companion animal also shows soft loyalty Lab work, immunity talk, and the cost of a pandemic give families a real chat starter. It is science fiction, not a documentary. Still useful for talking about isolation and responsibility

Story (may spoil tone)

Robert Neville is a scientist who was unable to stop the spread of the terrible virus that was incurable and man-made. Immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and perhaps the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone.

  • What would loneliness do to someone stuck alone for years?
  • The film asks what we owe strangers when the world falls apart. What did your teen take from that?
