Our take

Bella is caught between Edward and Jacob while another vampire threat grows around them. Eclipse mixes romance and jealousy with stalking fear and fantasy fights. We would start at 13 for a teen already comfortable with the series.

Uplifting themes

Allies from rival groups learn to cooperate to protect people they love. Choosing consent and safety in relationships gets quiet emphasis Bella pushes for honesty with both suitors, and some elders try to shield her. Not every vampire role model is steady, but teamwork wins the battle

Story (may spoil tone)

Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob, knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

Newborn vampires, demon talk, and stalking sequences keep a dark fantasy mood. Younger viewers may fixate on the undead threat to Bella
