Why our age differs

Official is MA 15+. We say 16+ because frequent strong language, sexual misconduct talk, and a brutal killing push past a lighter restricted ghost story

Our take

The haunting is only part of what is wrong in this house. A controlling marriage, affairs, sexual misconduct and a brutal killing sit under the ghost story. There are also sex scenes and partial nudity. We would wait until 16 for the whole combination.

Uplifting themes

Trusting your instincts when a partner dismisses your fear is a clear through-line. The film values seeing clearly even when the truth is ugly Catherine keeps digging when others shrug off her unease. Supportive friends help, while charming authority figures often fail the test

Story (may spoil tone)

A young woman discovers that both her husband and their new home harbor sinister secrets after they leave Manhattan for small-town life.

  • When a partner hides parts of their past, what counts as a deal-breaker versus a hard conversation?
  • How do you separate real danger in a relationship from fear that a spooky house is making worse?
