Our take

My Best Friend's Wedding is a glossy 90s romantic comedy full of schemes, songs, and Chicago wedding chaos. There are kisses, mild sex talk, smoking and drinking, and a moderate sprinkle of swearing including one f-word. Emotional cruelty is played for laughs until it isn't. We land at 13 and up because the adult romance games fit early teens who already watch romcoms

Uplifting themes

Friendship and honesty eventually matter more than winning someone else's wedding. The film still spends a long stretch laughing at selfish schemes first George offers loyalty and a moral nudge when Julianne's plans spiral out of control. Julianne herself stays charming on the surface and often a terrible friend

Story (may spoil tone)

When she receives word that her longtime platonic pal Michael O'Neal is getting married to debutante Kimberly Wallace, food critic Julianne Potter realizes her true feelings for Michael -- and sets out to sabotage the wedding.

One clear f-word sits with the s-word, damn, hell, and b-word in heated moments. Swearing is moderate for a 90s romcom and never becomes a nonstop barrage

Kisses, a nakedness joke between old friends, and talk of sex weave through the wedding week. Desire is the plot engine without graphic sex scenes

Cigarettes and drinks appear at parties, dinners, and hotel corridors. Adult social habits stay in the background of the romance scramble and wedding week
