Why our age differs

Official is M. We say 15+ because frequent fights, shootings, and a virus-threat chase stay loud and central from start to finish

Our take

Hobbs & Shaw is wall-to-wall car chases, fistfights, and shootouts with a virus threat hanging over the globe. Language sits at a moderate level with hell, the s-word, and insults rather than a nonstop f-word barrage. Flirting stays light beside the mayhem. We land at M and up because the sustained combat and super-soldier violence play like a harder action M for most of the runtime

Uplifting themes

Learning to trust a rival and never giving up on family peek through the explosions. Teamwork eventually beats lone-wolf swagger Protecting loved ones matters to the heroes when the virus threat turns personal. Most problems are still solved with fists and firepower first

Story (may spoil tone)

Ever since US Diplomatic Security Service Agent Hobbs and lawless outcast Shaw first faced off, they just have traded smack talk and body blows. But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton's ruthless actions threaten the future of humanity, they join forces to defeat him.

Brawls, gunfights, car wrecks, and a genetically enhanced killer fill most of the set pieces. Heroes win by hitting harder, and the action rarely slows for long

Hell, damn, the s-word, a-word, and b-word show up in buddy insults and fight banter. Strong language is regular without becoming a pure f-word flood

Light flirting and teasing between partners sit in the comic relief between fights. There is no sex scene or nudity focus once the mission kicks into gear

A stolen virus and an almost unstoppable villain raise the stakes beyond ordinary street fights. The tone stays popcorn-loud more than horror-dark

Guns, knives, and talk of stabbing or shooting stay in the action toolkit. Blood is present in spots without turning the film into a gore showcase

Reckless driving, rooftop leaps, and fight swagger are played as cool. Younger viewers may want to copy the stunt attitude even when the physics are movie-fake

Talk after watching

  • Hobbs and Shaw waste time on ego before they cooperate. When does competition help a team, and when does it put people at risk?
  • The villain is built as stronger and harder to stop than ordinary humans. How do action films make violence look consequence-free?
