Our take

Troll is a Netflix creature feature that treats Scandinavian folklore like a kaiju disaster movie. Buildings fall, soldiers die, and a huge monster stalks highways and cities with loud, scary set-pieces. Language is mostly mild with a few stronger bursts, and romance stays brief. We land at 13 and up because the monster destruction and death toll feel like a solid M adventure rather than a soft kids' fantasy

Uplifting themes

Curiosity and respect for nature beat blind force when leaders want a quick kill. The film questions shooting first and asking questions later The lead scientist keeps arguing for understanding over panic as officials reach for bombs. Soldiers and politicians are a mixed bag of courage and ego Light folklore and geology flavour for viewers curious about Norwegian mountain myths and how old stories still shape modern fear

Story (may spoil tone)

When an explosion in the Norwegian mountains awakens an ancient troll, officials appoint a fearless paleontologist to stop it from wreaking deadly havoc.

Family fractures and the cost of lost lives sit under the spectacle of collapsing bridges. Loss is felt in quiet beats, then the chase continues

Talk after watching

  • Scientists and soldiers argue over how to stop the creature. When should leaders listen to experts instead of reaching for bigger weapons?
  • Old folklore suddenly becomes real. Which family stories or myths in your culture still shape how people see the land?
