Our take

The Nutty Professor is a broad 1990s body-swap comedy about a gentle, very large scientist who drinks a lab serum to become a thin, rude alter ego. The tone is slapstick and family-dinner loud. Fat jokes, bathroom humour, and crude sex gags land often, along with damn, hell, and the s-word. Drinking and hangover talk appear around the wild Buddy Love persona. We land at 13 and up because the body-shaming comedy and sexual jokes sit heavier than a soft kids' laugh-fest

Uplifting themes

Self-worth and being loved as you are beat the fake cool persona by the end. Kindness and honesty win the final tone after the ego trip collapses Sherman's gentle core is admirable, while Buddy Love is a warning about ego. Supporting friends occasionally model better care

Story (may spoil tone)

When beautiful Carla Purty joins the university faculty, genetic professor Dr. Sherman Klump grows desperate to whittle his 400-pound frame down to size and win her heart. So, with one swig of his experimental fat-reducing serum, Sherman becomes 'Buddy Love', a fast-talking, pumped-up, plumped down Don Juan.

Stand-up style sex jokes and kisses sit inside Buddy Love's swaggering night-out persona. Nothing turns into an explicit sex scene, yet the gags stay adult

Hangover talk and drunken behaviour cling to the wild alter ego. Alcohol marks the party persona, not a serious addiction plot

Fat jokes, stage humiliation, and family teasing about weight run through the film. The cruelty is meant as comedy, yet it lands on Sherman again and again

Sherman's shame about his size, crash-thin fantasy, and constant body insults are the engine of the story. Anorexia is named as a jab in dinner talk

Depression and emotional eating get named in a quiet beat between the fat jokes and serum chaos. Feelings, not just vanity, push Sherman toward the lab drink
