Our take

Life of the Party is a bright campus comedy about a mum who restarts university life after her marriage ends and lands in the same school as her daughter. Sex jokes, drinking, weed edibles, and moderate swearing run through the party scenes. A comic gun-waving bit and a throwaway suicide joke appear briefly. We land at 13 and up because the crude adult humour and substance gags fit teens with a parent, not younger kids

Uplifting themes

Starting over after divorce and cheering other women on get real warmth under the party gags. Reinvention is the heart of the comedy Deanna models courage to go back to school, even when she embarrasses her daughter. Friends who lift each other up help the message stick

Story (may spoil tone)

When her husband suddenly dumps her, longtime dedicated housewife Deanna turns regret into re-set by going back to college... landing in the same class and school as her daughter, who's not entirely sold on the idea. Plunging headlong into the campus experience, the increasingly outspoken Deanna – now Dee Rock – embraces freedom, fun, and frat boys on her own terms, finding her true self in a senior year no one ever expected.

Boxed wine, shots, tequila, edible weed bark, and a cocaine joke fill the college party lane. Intoxication is treated as goofy bonding

Someone tosses off a kill-myself joke about bad humour during a party beat. It is a throwaway line, not a mental-health storyline to unpack

Talk after watching

  • Deanna reinvents herself in front of her daughter. How would you feel if a parent joined your school life that closely?
  • Partying is framed as freedom after heartbreak. What other resets help after a relationship ends?
