Our take

A long, serious drama about immigrant architects rebuilding a legacy in postwar America. Frequent strong language, tense power struggles and mature themes including grief, corruption and sexual assault referenced in dialogue. Best for older teens and adults drawn to slow, ambitious historical fiction.

Uplifting themes

Perseverance, craft and loyalty matter even when success comes at a cost The leads show dedication and resilience, though their choices are often morally complicated

Story (may spoil tone)

When an innovative modern architect flees post-war Europe, he is given the opportunity to rebuild his legacy. Set during the dawn of the modern United States (in Pennsylvania), his wife joins him, and their lives are forever changed by a demanding, wealthy patron.
