Our take

A fast-paced family adventure pairing Sonic, Tails and Knuckles against the powerful antihero Shadow. Rated PG for action, some rude humor and mild language. Cartoon explosions, chase fights and emotional themes around loss and revenge sit under a playful overall tone. Fine for school-age kids who enjoy video-game-style action.

Uplifting themes

Friendship, doing the right thing and choosing mercy over revenge are central themes Sonic and allies model loyalty, courage and cooperation even when outmatched

Story (may spoil tone)

Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before. With their abilities outmatched in every way, Team Sonic must seek out an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet.
