Our take

A Category 5 hurricane floods a South Carolina town and brings bull sharks into the streets. Rated MA 15+ for bloody violent content, grisly images and language. People are torn apart in bloody attacks, cars crash and a pregnant woman gives birth during the flood. Foster children face neglect from cruel caretakers, a teen with anxiety pushes through panic and profanity runs throughout. Short, loud and graphic, aimed at horror fans.

Uplifting themes

Survivors pull together, and the story nods to climate-driven storms getting more dangerous Dakota and marine biologist Dale put others first despite their own fear Brief climate-science talk frames the storm, but the sharks are pure movie fantasy

Story (may spoil tone)

When a catastrophic hurricane slams a coastal town, stranded residents must survive rapidly rising waters swarming with ravenous sharks.

Talk after watching

  • The movie opens with climate-change talk about storms getting stronger. How much of the disaster feels like real science versus movie exaggeration?
  • Dakota has anxiety and agoraphobia after her mother's death but still helps others survive. What does courage look like when fear does not go away?
