Ted 2 is a raunchy comedy about a foul-mouthed talking bear and his best friend. Strong swearing, graphic sex jokes, and recreational cannabis use run through the film, with drug use played as fun. The tone is silly rather than frightening, but the adult material rarely lets up. We put it at 17 and up.
Uplifting themes
Under the crude gags there is a real thread about fighting to be recognised as a person and standing by the people you love. Loyalty and chosen family genuinely count for something by the end Ted and John are warm with each other but behave badly for most of the runtime, so they come across as lovable messes more than role models. Take the friendship, leave the life choices
Story (may spoil tone)
Newlywed couple Ted and Tami-Lynn want to have a baby, but in order to qualify to be a parent, Ted will have to prove he's a person in a court of law.

Most of the rough stuff is slapstick, with a chase and a tussle at a comic convention plus some shoving. A gun gets waved about and people joke about killing, but any harm is played for laughs. Nothing here is bloody or realistic

The f-word, s-word, and crude slang are frequent from beginning to end. If strong language is a firm limit at home, it will be an issue throughout this film

Graphic sex talk powers most of the jokes, including a messy fertility-clinic scene, porn references, and blunt chat about what couples get up to. The crude content is strong and frequent even without much on-screen nudity. It is adult humour aimed squarely at grown-ups

Ted and his friend smoke cannabis again and again and treat getting high as a normal good time. Drinking features too, and the drug use is shown as fun with no real downside. That casual, rewarded tone is worth knowing about

A kidnapping subplot adds a little menace in the back half, but the tone stays comic and the danger never feels real. The film never really tries to unsettle anyone

A handful of gags aim at race, sexuality and body size for shock value, so some of the humour clearly punches down. It is scattered through the film and never a running theme

Guns appear and get brandished for comic effect, with a brief bit of threat late on. There are no real wounds or bodies shown, so the weapon content stays light

Ted's repeated cannabis use is presented as harmless fun, which younger viewers may take as a cue to copy. Little else in the film invites imitation

Talk after watching
- Ted treats getting high as no big deal. How would you talk with an older teen about that?
- The film jokes about serious topics like race and consent. Which gags crossed a line for you?
