Transformers: The Last Knight fills more than two hours with robot battles, military gunfire, and destruction across cities. The action and body count are high, though little blood is shown. Crude language and frequent uses of the s-word add to the adult edge, and a teenage character is caught in the danger. We put it at around 13 and up; the noise and length may overwhelm younger children.
Uplifting themes
Teamwork, standing up for your side and protecting people run under the noise, and a found-family bond forms between the humans and robots. The messaging is thin next to the spectacle, but it is there The heroes are brave and loyal and watch out for the youngest in the group, even as they solve almost everything with bigger weapons. There is plenty of attitude and rough humour along the way
Story (may spoil tone)
Humans and Transformers are at war. Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager; Bumblebee; an English Lord; and an Oxford Professor.

Giant robots, soldiers and vehicles fight almost without pause, with shooting, explosions, cluster bombs and constant destruction. Characters are killed throughout, but the carnage is sci-fi spectacle and shows very little blood

Crude language comes thick and fast, led by frequent use of the s-word, with the b-word, a-word and other rough slang mixed in. Milder hell and damn fill the gaps, so it adds up over the long runtime

There is some flirting and light romantic teasing between two of the adults, plus the odd suggestive quip. Nothing goes further than that, and there is no sex or nudity shown

Adults drink beer and a character puffs on a pipe, and there is a grim throwaway story about a man who drank sewage water. It all sits in the background of the loud action

Massive battle scenes, menacing robots and a world-ending threat keep the tension high, and there is a kidnapping played partly for laughs. The sheer scale and noise can overwhelm younger viewers

A teenage girl joins the main group and is repeatedly caught in battles and chases. She acts capable, but she is still a young person in danger

Guns and heavy weapons are constant, deaths pile up and there is passing talk of gore. The film keeps injury detail low, so you see the firepower far more than the wounds

Talk after watching
- The heroes almost always reach for a bigger weapon to fix a problem. Are there moments they could have tried something else?
- A teenager is right in the middle of the danger here. How old do you think someone should be to handle this much on-screen battle?
