Why our age differs

Official is G. We say 6+ because cosmic disaster talk, loud chases, and comic kidnapping gags are a notch above the quietest preschool films

Our take

Ice Age: Collision Course has the herd racing to avoid a planet-threatening rock after Scrat causes trouble in space. Chases, explosion talk, and kidnapping jokes are played for slapstick rather than real harm. A brief 'naked bingo' line is the only sexual reference noted. We put it at around 6 and up, with a parent nearby for children startled by loud scenes.

Uplifting themes

The herd pulls together when the sky looks hopeless and the clock is short. Family plans and friendship beat panic. Soft, clear values for younger kids Parents and pals keep trying even when the plan sounds wild and Scrat makes it worse. Buck-style bravery is silly and brave at once. Kids see courage with humour Space rocks and gravity gags may open a simple science chat about why things fall and fly. Keep it wonder, not worry. Comedy leads, and any real facts can wait for after the credits

Story (may spoil tone)

Set after the events of Continental Drift, Scrat's epic pursuit of his elusive acorn catapults him outside of Earth, where he accidentally sets off a series of cosmic events that transform and threaten the planet. To save themselves from peril, Manny, Sid, Diego, and the rest of the herd leave their home and embark on a quest full of thrills and spills, highs and lows, laughter and adventure while traveling to exotic new lands and locations.

Comic kill lines, chase scraps, and talk of a planet-killing rock keep energy high. Everything reads as cartoon stakes. Preschoolers who dislike loud bangs may still flinch

A character makes a one-line joke about naked bingo. No nudity or sexual scene is described in the guide

Frightening Mild Asteroid doom talk, comic kidnapping cheers, and silly dino-bird abduct…

Asteroid doom talk, comic kidnapping cheers, and silly dino-bird abduction jokes add mild menace. The film undercuts fear with slapstick. Very sensitive little ones may still ask if the rock is real

Talk after watching

  • The herd has to solve a huge problem together. What job would you want on that team?
  • Scrat keeps making bigger messes for one acorn. When is wanting something funny, and when does it hurt others?
