Our take

Game Night starts as a staged murder mystery, then a real kidnapping and criminal scheme take over. The comedy keeps moving even when weapons, blood, and stabbing injuries become real. Frequent f-words, drinking games, and a heroin joke add to the adult tone. We put it at around MA 15+ and up for the violence beneath the party-game premise.

Uplifting themes

The couple learns to communicate and back each other up when stakes turn real. Much of the ride still rewards reckless choices for laughs Annie shows clever nerve under pressure. Everyone else lies, cheats at games, or runs toward danger for sport Maybe a quick chat about verifying emergencies before acting. Otherwise this is party entertainment

Story (may spoil tone)

Max and Annie's weekly game night gets kicked up a notch when Max's brother Brooks arranges a murder mystery party -- complete with fake thugs and federal agents. So when Brooks gets kidnapped, it's all supposed to be part of the game. As the competitors set out to solve the case, they start to learn that neither the game nor Brooks are what they seem to be. The friends soon find themselves in over their heads as each twist leads to another unexpected turn over the course of one chaotic night.

  • When a game turns dangerous in the movie, how would you check what is real in real life?
  • Did the film make crime look too funny once bodies showed up?
