Our take

This is a loud, silly music comedy with big costumes, awkward romance, and contest pressure. Sexual jokes and "sex-nuts" bragging land for laughs, and language leans on the s-word, hell, damn, plus at least one f-word. A boat explosion tied to rivalry adds a darker comic beat. We land at 13 and up because the innuendo and occasional strong language fit older tweens and teens more than little kids

Uplifting themes

Friendship, creative courage, and refusing to shrink for cool kids drive the ending. Being weird together beats winning alone Sigrit's loyalty and Lars's growth after embarrassment give kids something to root for. Adult rivals often model envy instead

Story (may spoil tone)

Two small-town singers chase their pop star dreams at a global music competition, where high stakes, scheming rivals and onstage mishaps test their bond.

Lots of s-word venting, plus hell, damn, g-word, and one clear f-word. The swearing matches frustrated small-town comedy more than constant aggression

Characters joke about going sex-nuts and sleeping with everyone, and there are awkward kisses. The tone is crude comedy rather than erotic detail

Whiskey gifts and drunk jokes appear around parties and pre-show nerves. Nobody turns the film into a substance-abuse story; it stays comic flavor

A comic ghost mentor pops in late, more quirky helper than horror figure. Younger kids may still find the boat explosion beat startling

Loss tied to the boat disaster hangs over the second half in a bittersweet way. The comedy keeps returning, yet the absence is real

Talk after watching

  • Lars and Sigrit keep performing even when people mock them. What helps you stay kind to yourself after public embarrassment?
  • Rivalry turns dangerous when someone cheats the contest. Where is the line between ambition and harm?
