Our take
This Illumination PG spin-off packs the Minions off to 1920s Hollywood to film monsters and save the planet. Slapstick weapon play, a brief beheading without blood, minion butt nudity and mild language all feature. Danger sequences run a little long but keep breaking for comedy and reassuring endings. Fine for most elementary kids who already enjoy Minions chaos.
Uplifting themes
Discussing Film frames it as a heartfelt ode to cinema, with teamwork to save the planet The Minions model chaotic but loyal teamwork while chasing filmmaking dreams The meta Hollywood and filmmaking premise may spark talks about movies and creativity
Story (may spoil tone)
This is the rambunctious, ridiculous and totally true story of how the Minions conquered Hollywood, became movie stars, lost everything, unleashed monsters onto the world and then banded together to try and save the planet from the mayhem they had just created.
