Our take

Adam Wingard's US R desert action-horror follows Army sniper Celeste as escaped genetically engineered super-soldiers hunt civilians and she protects her young daughter. Graphic gun violence, gore and nudity run through a bleak military-slasher tone. Child peril is sustained and central, not a side beat. PTSD and parental stress add emotional weight beside the carnage. Strictly for older teens and adults who can handle relentless, grim violence.

Uplifting themes

Maternal protection and community defense offer limited uplift amid bleak violence Celeste is a protective mother and skilled defender, though her methods are extremely violent

Story (may spoil tone)

When a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers break loose in the desert, a badass Army sniper must unleash hell to protect her young daughter.
