Why our age differs

Official is M. We say 15+ because the whole film is a glamorous casino heist, and that gambling world is the story, not a background extra

Our take

Ocean's Eleven follows a newly paroled thief assembling a crew to rob Las Vegas casinos. The pleasure is in the planning and banter, but gambling fills the setting and the criminals are made appealing. There is some strong language, social drinking, and guns with little blood. We put it at around M and up, with a conversation about the film's glamorous treatment of theft if needed.

Uplifting themes

The crew only works if everyone does their bit, and loyalty among the eleven is the heartbeat. It is still a story that cheers a huge theft. Talk about charm versus honesty after Danny is loyal to his friends and still a career thief who treats crime as a game. Tess has more backbone than the men around her. Cool is the point, not good choices You pick up a little about casino security, cameras, and why vaults hold so much cash. It is wrapped in a wish-fulfilment robbery. Curious teens may want the real ethics afterwards

Story (may spoil tone)

Less than 24 hours into his parole, charismatic thief Danny Ocean is already rolling out his next plan: In one night, Danny's hand-picked crew of specialists will attempt to steal more than $150 million from three Las Vegas casinos. But to score the cash, Danny risks his chances of reconciling with ex-wife, Tess.

Guards carry guns around the vault, and a crime boss talks about killing people who cross him. The crew stages a loud blast as a distraction. Fists barely fly; the threat is the point

A few f-words land in the heist, with the s-word, hell, damn, b-word, and the a-word around them. The swearing comes in bursts. Teens will clock it quickly

Danny is still chasing his ex-wife, with flirting in hotels and on the casino floor. Kisses stay brief. The heat is in the looks, and it never turns explicit

Whiskey and vodka appear as Vegas table drinks, and someone mentions not smoking. It is social and in the background. Nobody is getting high as a story engine

The vault sequence is tight and loud, with a countdown feeling once the crew is inside. A staged blast rattles the Strip. It is thriller tension, over fairly fast

A nervous crew member is called 'suicidal' before a dangerous drop into the vault. It is a throwaway comment about risk; no self-harm is shown

Firearms sit on guards' hips and in security plans, with no bloody injuries to look at. The blast is spectacle. Death is talked about, not shown as wounds

The heist explains disguises, surveillance, and how the crew gets into a vault. Their cleverness is made appealing, so the criminal plan is worth discussing with teens

Casinos, chips, slot machines, and a cash-filled vault fill the setting. The film makes the Las Vegas gambling world look glamorous

Talk after watching

  • The crew makes stealing look like teamwork and style. Where did it show the cost, if it did at all?
  • Danny wants his ex-wife back while he is pulling a huge job. What did your teen think of that mix?
