Our take

Underworld: Awakening follows Selene into a war between humans, vampires, and Lycans. Guns and creature battles are frequent, and a young girl is hunted as part of the conflict. Captivity and loss give the short film a bleak mood beneath its action. We put it at around 17 and up for the sustained combat and child peril.

Uplifting themes

Protecting family and refusing to stay a specimen give the violence a purpose. Mother-daughter loyalty matters. The answers still come through fighting A mother who will not abandon her child under fire is the clearest model. She is lethal and cold by design. Still a talk starter about fierce care

Story (may spoil tone)

Having escaped years of imprisonment, vampire warrioress Selene finds herself in a changed world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species. Now Selene must battle the humans and a frightening new breed of super Lycans to ensure the death dealers' survival.

Guns, creature attacks, and combat injury sit in the usual Underworld lane. You see fights land, not a soft fade away. Blood and weapons are part of the spectacle

Years stolen and people missing weigh on Selene as she wakes into a harsher world. Loss sits under the action. It is more ache than a long funeral arc
