Why our age differs

Official is PG. We say 11+ because ghost possession and city-wide peril run scarier and longer than a typical PG adventure

Our take

The Ghostbusters face a threat that freezes New York, bringing ghost swarms and possession scares alongside the usual jokes. Frozen Empire stays playful, though its larger supernatural scenes may be a lot for a younger child. We would start around 11.

Uplifting themes

Family teams up across generations to protect their neighborhood, and newcomers learn to trust the old squad. Found-family warmth balances the scares Callum and Phoebe work to belong while Egon's legacy guides them. Adults admit mistakes and keep trying to shield kids from harm

Story (may spoil tone)

The Spengler family returns to where it all started - the iconic New York City firehouse - to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who've developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.

  • Phoebe wants to prove she belongs on the team. What skills matter more than family name?
  • When does a scary ghost story cross from fun to too much for your kid?
