Our take

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom brings creature-horror scares into the dinosaur series. A volcanic eruption causes chaos, dinosaurs kill people, and a specially bred predator stalks a child through a dark mansion. There is gunfire, moderate swearing, and some blood, though gore is restrained. The loss of animals left behind may upset sensitive children. We put it at around 13 and up.

Uplifting themes

The story wrestles with animal welfare and the ethics of playing god with genetics. Characters risk everything to protect living creatures, which gives families real ground to discuss Owen and Claire are brave and protective, but the film is full of greedy, ruthless adults chasing profit. The good and bad examples sit side by side

Story (may spoil tone)

Three years after Jurassic World was destroyed, Isla Nublar now sits abandoned. When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.

Just a light touch of romance. Owen and Claire share a kiss and trade some flirty banter between the big action beats. It is brief, and the dinosaurs remain the whole story

Several characters die, some eaten or crushed, and guns and tranquilliser rifles are used throughout. There are wounds and brief blood, though it stops short of graphic

Dinosaurs are left behind during the eruption. A long shot of one animal crying out as it is lost may be especially sad for children

Talk after watching

  • The film asks whether we should save the dinosaurs at all. What would you have done?
  • Some adults put profit over the animals' lives. How do you spot when someone is doing the wrong thing?
