Our take

Scary Movie is an adult slasher spoof with near-constant crude jokes. Strong language, graphic sex gags, drug and drinking jokes, and cartoon blood run throughout. Some humour relies on racial and sexual stereotypes. The violence is exaggerated, but the material is firmly for older viewers. We put it at MA 15+ and up.

Story (may spoil tone)

A familiar-looking group of teenagers find themselves being stalked by a more-than-vaguely recognizable masked killer! As the victims begin to pile up and the laughs pile on, none of your favorite scary movies escape the razor-sharp satire of this outrageously funny parody!

The parody deaths come with cartoonish gore, from a severed head that talks to a character boasting about blood and guts everywhere. It is deliberately silly instead of realistic, but the splatter is frequent

Talk after watching

  • This film mocks horror cliches non-stop. If you are watching as older teens or adults, which spoof jokes actually landed for you?
  • The humour leans hard on crude and offensive gags. Where is the line in your household between edgy comedy and going too far?
